Uber Revelation
A 100-word flash fiction
“Long flight?” the friendly Uber driver asks Sammie as she adjusts to the leather seat.
She smirks. “The worst.”
“Still a long way to Pinecliff,” he says.
Sammie reads his ID tag on the dashboard.
“Tell me about it, Sahid.”
The 60-year-old man smiles. Sammie sighs, catching her breath and feeling uneasy.
“Mother always said we travel far to find happiness.”
She grins. “She’s right. I had to go far to find mine.”
“Got family in Pinecliff?”
“They’ll be no longer family once I arrive there.”
Sahid raises his eyebrows.
“I met someone, so I’m getting a divorce.”
