The Ups and Downs in our Spiritual Journey
Living Mindfully and Awakened at All Times
There are highs and lows in all aspects of life, from work to family life, from falling in love to heartbreak, from birth to loss. Nobody living on this physical plane is relieved from pain and distress.
Yet the spiritual seekers and warriors tend to be on another level of frustration when it comes to how to deal with their emotions. Why is it that is so hard for us to understand that we are not perfect? We search for enlightenment, but we expect a fast miracle. We become judgemental and blame ourselves for having “low” feelings and thoughts. From falling apart just after we pulled ourselves back up and celebrated our glory.
Why is it so hard to show the same grace we show to humanity and society toward ourselves? Why is it complicated to understand we are souls living a human experience but we are still humans after all?
When facing our demons and struggles with mental health everyone tells us to go to mindfulness. We learn the importance of living in the present moment. We read spiritual books that talk about the universe, the meaning of life, and our anxiety tends to diminish a bit. We feel that everything that we feel is small if compared to the immenseness of the galaxies and stars. We are present and safe.
We have moments of high when anxiety seems to be gone. We considered ourselves healed. And then comes a trigger. Oh, the triggers! I thought they were done, we think. But they still come, and especially when we least expect them to return.
We forget that it is okay to feel. We forget it’s still okay to honor those feelings and thoughts that we judge ourselves so much for.
If there is one thing the spiritual warrior hates the most to start all over again.
Except we are not starting over. We will still go through situations that will take us out of our comfort zone and will drive us insane, maybe even more than before. However, we are not going downstairs to where we began. We just went down a few steps and we will go back up faster again. This time we are not alone. We have more resources and the journey through our internal crisis will be much more smoother if we allow ourselves to feel what we…
