“I can’t believe I signed up for this,” Brie complained, shivering and holding herself in a hug as strong as she could. “I told you it was too cold!”

Josh sighed. “Yeah, yeah, I know. I screwed up. But hey, we got fire!” He said with a smile as he motioned his stick to the small flame that struggled to remain active. Brie and Josh were definitely the only campers in the area.

“For now we have fire. For now!” Brie scoffs. “It’s just a matter of time until it starts to drizzle, and we are completely screwed. I am done with this. Let’s pack this up.”

Josh widened his eyes. “Hey, don’t do that. This is supposed to be the anniversary…”

He couldn’t bring himself to complete the sentence.

Brie stepped in closer. “Wherever Mom and Dad are now, Josh, they would never want us to freeze to death in the middle of winter in the Canadian Rockies!”

Josh lowered his eyes. He knew he couldn’t face his sister when she was that mad, and it was pointless to argue with her. Brie ranted for a bit about how that was a bad idea to start with and that they didn’t have any memories as a family going camping in freezing weather.

Silence grew between them. Brie’s words felt ice-cold tothe point that Josh couldn’t stand any longer.
